Scott Pilgrim and the Rest of the Cast

We already had Scott (Michael Cera) and Ramona (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and rumours of Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, but Scott Pilgrim author Bryan Lee O’Malley has now confirmed on his LiveJournal that the bulk of the main cast for Edgar Wright’s adaptation is in place (or, rather, has been in place for a while, but can now be officially announced).

That’s Brandon “Todd Ingram” Routh, Brie “Envy Adams” Larson and Mae “Roxy Richter” Whitman on the top; and Anna “Stacey Pilgrim” Kendrick, Mark “Stephen Stills” Webber, Johnny “Young Neil” Simmons and Alison “Kim Pine” Pill underneath.

Not pictured are Chris Fantastic Four Evans (Lucas Lee), Aubrey Plaza (Julie Powers),
Satya Bhabha (Matthew Patel) and Ellen Wong (Knives Chau, 17 years old).

I’ve got to say, it’s looking good. The “known” actors (Cera, Culkin) are proven quality, while Evans and Routh look inspired (the former playing a lunkheaded Hollywood action star, the latter someone with superpowers) - and the unknowns almost all look the part at first glance, particularly Stephen and Young Neil. A possible exception is Alison Pill as Kim Pine - but let’s be fair and not make snap judgements before we see anyone in character, as I think it’s just based on the fact that Kim is the best character and therefore has to be perfect.

EXCITING, anyway. If it does make it out before the end of the year, this could just supersede Watchmen as the prime comic book adaptation of 2009. And that’s to say nothing of book five of the comic itself - Scott Pilgrim vs. the Universe - being due out in a matter of weeks…

Possibly my all-time favourite running gag.
