Xmas in the Rye
About the only thing I have that comes even close to a Christmas tradition is reading The Catcher in the Rye at some point during the season. It's not anything I make sure to do...it's just that this time of year always makes me want to revisit it.
Evidently some folks like to revisit the story a whole other way: physically. And cnn.com has this interesting feature today: a guide to The Catcher in the Rye’s New York locations.
I think I’m going to print this out and save it for my mid-life crisis.

I got 30+ pages out of Scrooged for my Novel Into Film course, so don't feel too bad, intellectually. There's enough in that film to justify an annual re-watch.

I'll dig it out and see if I can scan it and convert it to text without much hassle. (I wrote it at college and stored in on their servers...probably a bad idea, but the only negative consequence I had to face was that I didn't have a digital copy of my own.)
It's not 30 pages of Scrooged, though, be warned. It's an examination of Dickens' original, one of the early depression-era film versions of A Christmas Carol, and then Richard Donner's Scrooged. The point of the paper is to explore the needs and desires of different time periods reflected in what is always, essentially, the same story.
I'll dig this weekend.
