» Make Google Laugh!
Go ahead, see if you can make Google laugh.
There's really no value to this device so far as I can tell, but it was fun to plug in different jokes and see what Google finds "funny." For example:
Q: What did the pirate say to Captain Crunch?
A: Arrrrrrr you going to finish that cereal?
Which is, apparently, 89.3617% funny. You can thank my cereal box for that little lump of comic gold.
For the record, I did actually achieve the amazing feat of a 100.00% funny joke. But I'm not sure I should post it here until after you all make your attempts...

Funny, that's the exact funniness I calculated for that joke without use of the utilitiy. Go me!

Apparently that string of arbitrary words is also 2.940 on the popularity scale. Not bad for my first attempt...
I'm going to go ahead and guess that this doodah can only cope with evaluating actual jokes, no? Quite an amusing diversion.

I have absolutely no idea how it even works.
"Works."
Which is disappointing, because I'd like to know, even slightly, what the hell it thinks it's evaluating to decide whether or not google "laughs."

How can it have any percentage of funniness at all if Google isn't laughing?

Well, in fairness there are plenty of jokes I find funny that I don't laugh at...it takes a lot to get me to laugh out loud at something, but, on the whole, I do find plenty of things amusing.
That said, I still have no damned idea what this utility is even DOING.

I like that the popularity doesn't have any bearing on the funniness percentage. And that full-stops in humour actually matter after all.

My impression is that it's random. That it doesn't do more with your effort than assign it a random number. That's what I was suggesting, anyway.

Ah, gotcha Arthur. I wasn't sure what you were getting at, probably because I assumed you were getting at something quite different than what you were.
I emailed the following question to the contact link on the site:
Hey. Just wondering what Google Laugh is testing for to decide whether or not Google "laughs." What does it mean when it laughs? What does it search for to make that decision?
Here is the reply I received:
Hi,
Good question. The answer is actually kind of secret but I can give some hints.
Have you seen the concept of "GoogleShare"?
An example that I created is here:http://www.googleduel.com/googlebusinessmain.php
It allows you to use Google to find out how strongly a word or phrase is associated with other words.
What I am doing is selecting certain words from the joke (not the whole joke), and finding out how strongly they are associated with certain humor keywords. It calculates, based on this, a Funniness Percentage. If the calculated funniness percentage is greater than 50% then "Google Laughs".

There was a Daddy Balloon, a Mummy balloon and a baby balloon. One night they were getting ready for bed and Baby balloon wanted to sleep in his mummy and daddy's bed. Daddy Balloon said "You are too old to sleep in our bed. It is time you started sleeping in your own bed. So off you go" Sadly baby balloon trooped of to his own bed. Later that night he crept into his parents room and tried to climb in with them. But there was not enough room. So very carefully he reached down and let a little air out of his Dad. He tried to get in but there was still not enough room. So he reached down and let a little air out of his Mum. He tried again to climb in, but there still was not quite enough room. So he reached down and let out a little of his own air. He climbed back into the bed and fitted in perfectly between his parents. He was soon asleep. In the morning when Daddy balloon woke up he was very very cross. He turned to baby balloon and said. "I told you that you are too old now to sleep in our bed and you have disobeyed me. You've let me down, you've let your mother down and worst of all you've let yourself down."
