Hooray for old BBC sites that are still online!

For instance, how about the site for On The Record, which finished at the end of 2002? You can even still watch the last episode - amazing how easy it is to forget how bad online video was back then…

Someone must be able to beat December 2002 for the oldest abandoned BBC site still online, though. Any takers? Old BBC News pages don’t count, you cheating bastards.

I know it’s sort of news, but it’s not on the news site and is very old (and most links don’t work): http://www.bbc.co.uk/election97/frameset.htm

I miss the “On the Record” crocodile thing. Why couldn’t they have transferred him to another show; perhaps as a guest on HIGNFY.

The Election site counts! Pity most of the links are broken, but the results stuff still seems to work…

And let’s face it - they should never have got rid of On The Record anyway.

Thanks for that election site. How strange it is to see that. It reminds me of how I felt back in ‘97, how uplifted with the change in government. I feel so sad that it all looks to be drawing to an end and we might have the Tories back in soon. Sigh.

I had no concept of the internet back in ‘97, either. I started university in ‘98 and the library there had antiquated apple macs that weren’t able to load more than a page every couple of hours. It just wasn’t a plausible technology for anyone I knew until around 1999-2000. Extraordinary really.
