Kieron Gillen being a funny fucker; Deus Ex 3 details to follow

Ace.

Unfortunately, this does mean I’m going to have to buy an issue of PC Zone. PC Gamer has long since taken the role of funny yet high quality games journalism from ‘Zone.

That Kieron’s a funny chap.

I’m sure someone will post scans online as soon as the magazine comes out so no need to waste money on that rubbish.

Yeah, I mainly go for PC Gamer as well, though I haven’t done so recently because my PC got too old to play the games it was hyping. The last time I bought PC Zone was because Fallout 3 was on the cover and I’ll probably do so for Deus Ex 3.

As expected, details have leaked early:

The story sounds pretty decent, and I’d been hoping that the title would move closer to the present day. However, there are some causes for concern:

“Combat won’t be influenced by stats, but will rely purely on your personal marksmanship skills. Instead stats will influence “a vast array of fully upgradeable and customisable weapons”, and you’ll be able to tailor your arsenal to your play style with mag upgrades, scopes and other add-ons.

What’s more, stealth will now rely on a cover system rather than shadows, and damage will be dealt with by a very Call of Duty-style auto-heal. There’s probably going to be some debate over those two.”

I think the last sentance is putting it mildly.

“Eidos Montreal says it’s more than aware of fan reaction to controversial second game, Invisible War, and promises mistakes, such as limiting ammo types to just one, won’t be repeated.”

Nope, you’re going to make a bag load of fucking new ones.

Have you heard talk that the entire game’s going to be third person?

I think that the problem with the Deus Ex franchise, right back to the first game, is Eidos not recognising that it’s an RPG, not an action game. What they’re proposing would be fine for updating a military FPS, but sound distinctly odd for Deus, particulary after Mass Effect showed that you can sucessfuly make an RPG look like a modern action title.

I’ve heard that the cover bits will be in third person. Sounds like you can pick and chose the cover, so I’m exactly expecting something like the terminally shitty Gears of War, but still…

I think you’re spot on with your assessment, though. Not enough respect is given to the aspects of the first game that made it so immersive. Arguably Invisible War managed to be successful in only one area: the story,
