Attention Broadcasters!

YouTube videos are not broadcast quality material. In any way whatsoever. Stop being lazy and source decent quality clips, dammit.

It’s even worse when this is done in obituaries, like ITV News has just done on the sad death of Eartha Kitt. Luckily, they were interspersed with higher quality material… which was broadcast in the wrong aspect ratio. A wonderful way to pay tribute to her, I’m sure you’ll agree. I’m sorry, how did this make it to air again?

Festive cheer? Bugger off.

About this entry

This is one of the worst thing about modern HIGNFY. Jokes replaced with fuck awful YouTube clips.

Good point- even Charlie Brooker was guilty of this on his Screen Wipe review of the year. The same programme featured the bizarre sight of footage being completely distorted to ensure that the BBC4 itent didn’t overlap with the logo of the originally broadcast channel…

Yes, resulting in the amazingly fucking stupid situation of not even 16:9 clips being properly represented in a 16:9 programme. Well done!

To be fair, in the case of Screenwipe sometimes I imagine it’s because certain broadcasters are unwilling to provide tapes (the Loose Women clip a likely case in point). It’s not ALWAYS about laziness on the part of the makers.

Doesn’t help that budgets are diminishing, mind you…

The Culture Show last night had an item about Armando Iannucci’s new plastic surgery opera(!) which they illustrated with a Youtube clip of The Armando Iannucci Shows’ fantastic Ibiza opera. C’mon, the series was finally released on DVD a couple of years ago - couldn’t they at least have ripped it from that?
