The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. III : Century

*jaw drops*

No, I'm not talking about The Black Dossier. We know about that, that's the weird cross-media experimental one that keeps getting delayed and will be the last one to be published by Wildstorm/DC. No, I'm talking about this (scroll down, just below the From Hell hardcover).

The third volume detailing the exploits of Miss Wilhelmina Murray and her extraordinary colleagues is a 216-page epic spanning almost a hundred years and entitled Century. Divided into three 72-page chapters, each a self-contained narrative to avoid frustrating cliff-hanger delays between episodes, this monumental tale takes place in three distinct eras, building to an apocalyptic conclusion occurring in our own current twenty-first century.

Beginning in 2008. Holy fuck.

For some reason, I was thinking that this was about the League of Gentlemen. Now *that* would have been interesting.

What do you reckon? Is Mina immortal or are we going to see a spot of HG Wells' Time Machine action?

Ooooo! As this is one of the few comics I enjoy--indeed one of three titles I know anything about (the other two are Runaways and ElfQuest)--this is very good news for me.

Given that LOEG is the finest recent work by the greatest comics author of all time, in what way is the announcement of a new volume of it not interesting?

Also, James, I reckon Mina is immortal. But I'm also wondering what will have happened to Allan, since we know from what we know about Black Dossier that he himself has become immortal, or at least re-youth-i-fied, at some point.

Eh, give me Steve Pemberton in a dress.

No, seriously.

My birthday is on Sunday and it would be really nice if somebody gave me Steve Pemberton in a dress.

Seb: Allan gets re-youthified when they visit the Fountain of Youth in the text stories from Volume 2; he's posing as his own son during that story on account of now being visibly younger. I doubt he's immortal, but he could conceivably re-visit the fountain and still be alive "today"...

Gah, yes, of course. I may have possibly not read all the text stories in volume 2, as I don't have my own copies.

I finally got round to reading the two volumes of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen recently. They were indeed very good, but not quite as flawless as they'd been made out to be - Tom Strong and Smax are my favourite of the ABC line (yes, I preferred Smax to Top 10!). However, I haven't read Promethea or Tomorrow Stories yet.

Also, a few months ago I got The Ballad of Halo Jones out of the library. I put off reading it for a long time, because I was discouraged by the dense art, bizarre setting and constant use of slang at the start of the story. But I tried it again. It's absolutely superb.

wonderful! oh so wonderful! LOEG is my favorite series ive read so far in my entire life. its clever, and exciting, and definitely worth thousands of re-reads over and over again. i hope Alan will write a hundred more books for the series. im sure not everyone shares my enthusiasm, but thats alright….i just love it. and with 2009 so close, hopefully it will come out soon.

maybe around the Watchmen release? eh….that kinda sounds corny to me actually, but who cares? great literature is being produced!
