"I like what you've done with your hair, oh yeah"

Well, after a good few months and many moans I've finally realised that I actually really like The Darkness' second album One Way Ticket To Hell... And Back. Talk about being a slow grower. I honestly can't think of another album that I've gone from pretty much hating to loving before. For this I can only thank Justin Hawkins and Jonathan Ross for prompting me to listen to it again just now.

Moral of the story? Always be prepared to eat your words.

I've gone the other way - from thinking it was not-quite-as-good-as-PTL-but-still-great to despising it. I still like some tracks (Is It Just Me?, Dinner Lady Arms, Hazel Eyes), but I can't listen to the album any more because I now associate it with the complete and utter implosion of my favourite band. They're not The Darkness any more, they're The Justin Hawkins Show.

I feel an article coming on.

Most of it is laughable. It's a lot worse musically than Permission To Land.

'Laughable' isn't really the right word actually. It just isn't as good. And there's a little too much focus on recreating Queen-style multi vocals. My favourite tracks are Knockers and Bald, and Hazel Eyes isn't bad. I reckon they've released the wrong singles, especially One Way Ticket... which was too safe. I thought Hazel Eyes would be a single. I'm assuming Dinner Lady Arms will be the last single they release from it.

I was going to say "Welcome to our world", but I've just seen Ian's first response to this post, and I have to say, it saddens me.

Not as much as it saddens me that I feel that way.

When did all this happen, Ian? And what's wrong with The Justin Hawkins Show, anyway?

The problem is that Dan, Ed, and Richise are all really talented too. Plus theres the fact that they are a band, and Justin already has a solo carrer (if you can call it that) underway. I'm not as distressed by Justin being in the limelight as Ian is, but due to this and other things I'm starting to think that they're not even trying anymore.

I love the Darkness, they have produced some very happy memories for me, and it's due to them I've met some ace people. And for that I will always love them. But I won't be rushing to the shops for the next single. They need to get thier arses into gear quickly.
