Do the Hustle

HustleThe third series premiered tonight at 9:00pm.

And, you know what, I was pretty disappointed. I'm a massive fan of the show, and its creator Tony Jordan, but I think it took the 'silly' tone just a tad too far tonight. And NO-ONE should attempt to perform a 'Gansta Rap' accent - comedically or seriously - it's just poor.

I'm hoping Hustle's move to a more primetime slot doesn't herald a deterioration of quality. I mean, two famous guest stars in one episode is a bit much, isn't it? It smacks of desperation to keep the show feeling fresh when they're starting to run out of good ideas. Hopefully just a blip this week, though.

I always love the inevitable but amusing reveal of the Grand Plan at the end, though. At the end of the day, the show never fails to put a massive grin on my face, dodgy concepts or no.

About this entry

Comments

I've never really been a fan, but I caught a couple of episodes of the last series, and quite enjoyed them.
However, I forgot to watch last night. Glad I did, now.

I agree with you completely about this particular episode Cappsy, but tonight's ep (i.e. S3E2) was one of the best I've seen yet. Setting Danny and Micky against each other was a genious idea, and Albert had some great moments too. Often I get the idea that either the writers don't really know what to do with Vaughn, or he's just not around for too much of the filming, but tonight his setup, his asides with the barman (name?) and his final reveal were all perfect. In fact in watching tonight, for the first time in a long time, I got a real sense of fun.

Also - has anyone else been watching Real Hustle? Those guys think they are a lot cleverer than they actually are, but I wonder if they had advance knowledge of Hustle scripts - they seem to be showcasing some of the same cons. Perhaps they just have the same advisors, I suppose there are only so many cons after all.
