New series of Charlie Brooker's Screen Wipe about to start!
WATCH IT. Brooker talks about TV better than... well... anyone, really. The first series of Screen Wipe wasn't quite as compelling as his weekly Screen Burn columns, but it still pissed all over just about any other attempt in recent years to make a TV-show-about-TV (with the obvious exception of the incomparable TV Burp). The more people watch it, the more likely he is to make more, and more Charlie Brooker on our screens is a GOOD THING. Especially if it prevents him from writing any more Nathan Barley.

This, from his site's FAQ, is excellent:
"Why use a JPEG for the listings instead of text?
Because I want precise control over the layout. And because it seriously annoys "real ale" Internet users who do all their browsing on text-based hand-held calculators, and that arouses me."

The cunt should've used PNGs, then. Doesn't he KNOW about lossy and non lossy file types? Tsk.
Also: hurrah for Screen Wipe coming back, but he needs to modify his ppinion of Lost RIGHT NOW, before I get cross(er).

To be fair, TVGH was made back in 2000. How common were PNGs back then?
You have to say, even if you're John, that he makes a compelling excuse for using images. At least he admits that he actually *wants* to piss people off, rather than simply be inconsiderate and thoughtless, and you've got to respect him for that ;-)

He wouldn't have wanted to use GIFs because they can only support 256 colours.
But IE4 supported non-transparancy PNGs back in 97 - way before TVGH started. All he was doing is revealing his own technical ignorance. And he could easily have provided a text-only *alternative* for visually impaired people.

Starts August 3rd. There was a 10 minute preview yesterday, but I forgot about it.
I'm really worried I'll be nodding and going "hmmm, yes, I see what they've done there", and not actually laughing - exactly as I did with 2004: The Stupid Version. I hope I'm wrong, though.

Got Screen Wipe off UKNova today - brilliant. Better than the pilot series, in fact. Is this run longer than three episodes, does anyone know?
His set of suggestions for what to do with series three of Doctor Who, while a cut-down retread of a Screen Burn column from a couple of weeks back, was ace...
