Lost Season 5 Trailers

Undoubtedly, Lost’s new season structure (16ish episodes a year, running from February to March for its final three seasons) has been great for the show. What little pointless filler we had before (and it WAS only a small amount) has been stripped out and then some, and as a result season 4 was a lean, satisfying beast. So, season 5 is coming up in a few months, I’m getting foamy and after the jump we have two new trailers (via Dark UFO, a site you really don’t want to visit unless you like massive spoiler sandwiches.)

The first, comprising clips from the end of season 4 and some flashes of 5:

A short teaser, shown during the election:

Frankly, if there is anyone out there who gave up with the show then I suggest un-give up right now and watch season 4, because from now on Lost is going to be as good if not better than that. And season 4 was fucking brilliant.

Y’know, I might even do it if it didn’t cost me anything. But I don’t have Sky. So that’s that.

Mind you, I can’t imagine it making me warm to the character writing, or changing my take on the conclusion.

It’s fine, anyway - I don’t want it banned or anything! And one man’s limp cardboard stereotype is another’s subtle and nuanced character. It’s only the claim of very little padding that irks me. I’m more than aware that the show has many good qualities.

Um, anyway: carry on.

By the way, I PROMISE I didn’t deliberately lead you into this. Much.

Your morals have kicked your arse, my friend.

The conclusion that hasn’t even happened yet? And I’d argue that watching season 4 would do a great deal towards showing you how good they are with payoffs.

> And one man’s limp cardboard stereotype is another’s subtle and nuanced character

Both of those descriptions are inaccurate, though. They’re not the most amazing characters every written, but they have almost all worked out to be great for the show. I don’t mind simpler characters if they’re serving an excellent unfolding world and plot. Which they are.

But on the upside I miss Lost. So it’s not all bad.

> The conclusion that hasn’t even happened yet?

Yeah, but you already know my opinion on the likelihood of a successful conclusion.

> Both of those descriptions are inaccurate, though.

Accuracy, there.

I still maintain that for the 100 episodes I watched, I spent an awful lot of time with people drawn from the The Little Boy’s Book Of Bog-Standard TV Characters. And worse yet I was asked to spend 20 minutes a week in their tedious soap opera flashbacks. (I know you didn’t find them so.)

As to their brilliant effectiveness through the story. Again - you know where I come down on this. Saying it in a high-pitched voice don’t make it any more true. :-)

Must we really dance this dance again? Can’t we switch to a nice polka? You can’t say I didn’t give the blasted show a chance…

Hey, you coughed first! But you made a Lee & Herring reference so everything is fine and lovely.

Still the best, it’s LOST! I love how it looks like the most violent and dark season so far! The question is, will Ben get beaten up AGAIN?? Probably not, actually. I can’t wait to find out what the ‘bad things’ that happened on the island under Locke’s reign are.

Just watched season 4 on Blu-ray - fucking ace. The scene with Ben and Widmore in London still gives me chills even though I’ve watched it too many times. ‘Did you come here to kill me, Benjamin?’ ‘We both know I can’t do that.’ ‘I know who you are, boy…what you are. I know everything you have you took from me.’ They really hit the jackpot having Alan Dale play Charles Widmore. He and Michael Emerson are beyond perfect. So it Henry Ian Cusick, who plays Desmond. The Constant sure was an episode and a half. Not since the days of Dwarf has so much been crammed into one episode of television!

For me season 1 is easily the worst (though the Locke episode where he’s banging on the hatch at the end probably still ranks in the top 10 of all episodes), then season 2, 3 and 4 is the best (so far, though I don’t know how they will top it with 5 and 6). Looking back at season 1 it seems so poor it’s untrue. OK, they had to go through all that mediocre stuff to get to where they are now, establish the characters and all, but it’s blatantly obvious that they didn’t know what they were doing or where they were going, it wasn’t much more than ‘oh, we’re on an island, and oh look Boone’s dead, boo-hoo (or not), let’s sit around campfires to a musical outro…’

I’m a big fan of everything about the show but particularly Michael Giaccino’s music, which isn’t surprising I suppose. Ben’s ‘sad’ theme is sheer class. When that’s playing in a big way over him pushing the ‘frozen donkey wheel’ it just affirms to me that Lost is way beyond 99% of television. And look at the effects in that last episode! I wonder whether they had more budget to mess around with due to them losing 2 episodes from the season. It really makes seasons 1 and 2 look pathetic!
